Tennessee Titans re-sign Shyheim Carter

The Tennessee Titans waived safety Shyheim Carter on Saturday. It was the fourth time the NFL team had released or waived the Alabama alumnus. On Tuesday, for the fourth time, the Titans signed Carter back to their roster.

Carter has returned to the Tennessee practice squad.

Carter originally joined the Titans on Dec. 30, 2021, after spending time on the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad in 2020 and the Houston Texans’ practice squad in 2021.

Carter made his NFL regular-season debut on Oct. 10 as a practice-squad elevation, then joined the active roster on Oct. 14 and played the next day.

But with slot corner Roger McCreary unable to play on Sunday because of a hamstring injury, Tennessee signed cornerback Eric Garror from its practice squad for the active roster. To create a spot on the roster, Carter was waived.

The Titans replaced one former Mobile prep star with another. McCreary played at Williamson High School before going to Auburn, and Garror prepped at McGill-Toolen.

In Sunday’s 28-23 victory over the Atlanta Falcons, Garror played 61 of the Titans’ 68 defensive snaps and also returned five punts for 32 yards.

Carter cleared waivers on Monday, allowing him to re-sign with Tennessee.

The Titans play the Pittsburgh Steelers at 7:15 p.m. CDT Thursday at Acrisure Stadium in Pittsburgh. Prime Video will televise the game.
