Former Auburn CB Nehemiah Pritchett taken with pick No. 136 in the NFL Draft

Former Auburn cornerback Nehemiah Pritchett’s name came off the board Saturday as he was selected No. 136 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, going to the Seattle Seahawks in the fifth round.

Pritchett is the first former Auburn player to hear his name called in this year’s draft.

Being picked by the Seahawks on Saturday comes after Pritchett appeared in nine of Auburn’s 13 games in 2023. Pritchett missed the first three games of the season with an injury and later opted out of the Tigers’ Music City Bowl matchup against Maryland.

In those nine games, Pritchett logged a combined 22 tackles and an interception.

Pritchett, who started at corner for the Tigers in 2022, could’ve declared for the NFL Draft two seasons ago, but ultimately decided to finish what he started and take his fifth and final year of eligibility.

After five years on The Plains, which came after being a standout at Jackson High School, Pritchett will leave Auburn having tallied 115 career tackles, three interceptions and 29 pass breakups.

Pritchett’s schedule was booked in all of February and part of March as he accepted invites to both the Reese’s Senior Bowl and the NFL Scouting Combine in preparation for the draft. At the Combine, Pritchett impressed with his 4.36 40-yard dash.

The departure of Pritchett is just one piece of a full reset in Auburn’s defensive secondary as he joined fellow defensive backs DJ James, Jaylin Simpson and Zion Puckett in declaring for this year’s draft.

In effort to combat losing the quartet of DBs, Auburn has since added Alabama transfer Antonio Kite, Texas transfer Jerrin Thompson, JUCO transfer Laquan Robinson and four freshmen in Jay Crawford, A’Mon Lane-Ganus, Kensley Faustin and Kaleb Harris.
