With most NFL teams starting the meat of their offseason program this week, Auburn alumni appear 38 times on the rosters of the league’s 32 teams.

An influx of new talent from the Tigers holds the possibility of reversing a decline in Auburn’s NFL representation.

During the NFL’s 2022 campaign, 26 former Auburn players appeared in regular-season games. That was the fewest since 2013, a drop of six players from 2022 and a continued decline from the program high of 36 reached in 2016.

The Carolina Panthers, Green Bay Packers, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Jets and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have three players apiece from Auburn on their offseason rosters. Eight teams do not have an Auburn alumnus.

By roster position, Auburn has eight defensive backs, six defensive linemen, six linebackers, five offensive linemen, four wide receivers, two kickers, two quarterbacks, two tight ends, one long snapper, one punter and one running back on NFL rosters.

Of the Auburn players who appeared in NFL regular-season games last season, all but two – defensive lineman Angelo Blackson and linebacker Josh Bynes – are on rosters this offseason.

The NFL offseason has reached Phase 3, during which teams are allowed to conduct 10 days of organized team practice activity, often referred to as OTAs. No live contact is permitted, but teams can expand their workouts to include 7-on-7, 9-on-7 and 11-on-11 drills.

While these offseason workouts are voluntary, Phase 3 also can include a mandatory minicamp. If players fail to attend those three days of practice, they can be fined.

Twenty NFL teams will hold their first OTA workout on Monday, with 10 more opening OTAs on Tuesday.
