A child was found dead Monday night after walking away from his Clay County home.

Deputies were dispatched about 5:50 p.m. to a report of a child missing. The location was near Highway 9 South which is off Highway 63.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, including the Tri Community Volunteer Fire Department, the Lineville Police Department, the Ashland Police Department, the Clay County Rescue Squad and ALEA’s Aviation Unit.

After a brief search, the child’s body was recovered from a small pond near his home.

Clay County Coroner Dale Rush identified the child as Kyren Grey Andrews. He was between 3 and 4 years old, he said.
