Worldwide internet outage slowing flights at Alabama airports: What to know

A major internet outage affecting Microsoft on Friday morning has slowed flights at Alabama’s largest airports.

“The global tech outage continues to cause delays for United, Delta, and American,” Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport posted on X.

“But, things are moving slowly. Southwest Airlines not impacted by the outage. If you’re scheduled to fly today, check with your airline for the latest information.”

Several carriers are currently experiencing a worldwide technology issue,” Huntsville International Airport posted on Facebook.

“This may affect their operations and flight delays and cancellations may occur. For more information regarding your flight, contact your airline directly. Check your airline app, website, and emails as well.”

Talyn Walton with Huntsville International said flights are now running as of 7:45 a.m. but delayed, as with Hartsfield International Airport in Atlanta.

“It’s important that passengers stay in touch with their airlines directly,” Walton said.
