Work is underway for Whitesburg Christian Academy’s new gym.

A permit was issued last week for a $14.5 million building on the campus at 7290 Whitesburg Drive. The building is listed as Unit D.

The permit was issued to headmaster Jerry Reeder, according to Southern Exposure Information. JohnsonKreis Construction of Birmingham is listed as the builder. The company lists several schools and churches among its projects.

It has done work at Birmingham-Southern College, the Westminster School in Birmingham, Creative Montessori in Homewood, Highlands College in Birmingham, the Altamount School in Birmingham and Hilltop Montessori in Mt. Laurel.

It has also been the builder for the Church of the Highlands in Huntsville (and in other parts of the state), the Rock Family Worship Center, CrossPointe Church in Madison and Westbrook Baptist Church in Madison. The company also specializes in commercial and hospitality projects.

It was the largest single project issued permits last week in Madison, Limestone and Morgan counties. Overall, 187 permits totaling more than $62.5 million were issued.
