Work beginning on $108 million ‘net zero energy’ Huntsville residential development

Construction is beginning on a $108 million residential development in MidCity that is aiming for “net zero energy” with a reduced carbon footprint beginning with construction and continuing with concepts for reusable energy once completed.

The project is Wellory Living and will be located at Old Monrovia Road and Stax Street and feature more than 13,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor. RCP Companies of Huntsville, developers of MidCity, broke ground on the development in January.

Three permits were issued last week for the work totaling almost $74.2 million, according to Southern Exposure information. It was the most expensive project issued permits in the past week.

Each of the buildings is valued at almost $24.8 million. One includes a parking garage.

In a previous AL.com story, RCP Co-Founder Remy Gross said Wellory Living aims to have a net zero impact through solar cell photovoltaic (PV) panels, reflective roofing, greatly reduced leakage and waste, smart thermostats.
