Wood pellet manufacturer led the way as local stocks rose on Tuesday

Stocks climbed Tuesday after a cooler reading on inflation cemented Wall Street’s bet that the Federal Reserve will hold off on hiking interest rates this week.

The rally held true for most of the stocks of interest in the Mobile area, as 21 of the 25 companies in our index saw gains on the day.

Enviva, the world’s largest producer of sustainable wood pellets, which ships through the Port of Mobile, was up 8.6 percent on Tuesday to lead the percentage gains among earners on our list.

The news was not all good: Southern Company was one of just a handful of losers, dropping .6% to finish at 80.57 a share.

The S&P 500 rose 30.08 points, or 0.7%, to 4,369.01, its highest level since April 2022.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 145.79, or 0.4%, to 34,212.12, while the Nasdaq composite rallied 111.40, or 0.8%, to 13,573.32.
