Woman wounded, man charged in North Alabama shooting
DeKalb County authorities have charged a man following a Thursday night shooting in Henagar that wounded one woman.
Sheriff Nick Welden said the incident happened at about 6:27 p.m. at 131 Kelly Drive.
Henagar police and DeKalb County deputies responding to a call found one woman had been shot. The victim, whose name was not released, was transported to Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga.
Following the shooting, Welden said, investigators believed the shooter had ducked into a nearby wooded area.
A perimeter was established, with roadways blocked, and the county’s special response team was activated.
Joseph Earl Cobb, 62, of Henagar, was later taken into custody. He has been charged with first degree assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling. Welden said additional charges are expected.
Ider police, DeKalb EMA and Henagar Fire also participated in the action.
