Woman sues Alabama business after husband killed by 690 pound fishing net
An Alabama business is being sued for negligence and wrongful death after a 2023 workplace accident fatally injured an employee.
The lawsuit was filed in the Mobile County Circuit Court by Mary Williams on behalf of her husband, Ryan Williams.
The defendants in the case are Bayou Board and Rigging Inc. and other unnamed defendants who allegedly contributed to the wrongful death of Ryan.
According to the suit, “on or about August 2, 2023, Plaintiff, Ralph Williams, was struck/crushed by a 690-pound bale of fishing net that fell eleven feet from a rack while he was assisting with its storage and/or removal.”
The complaint alleges that the defendants failed to provide proper equipment to move the bale, failed to train employees how to move the bale and failed to provide proper warnings for handling the bale.
AL.com left a message with Bayou Board and Rigging seeking comment on the lawsuit.
The suit further alleges that the business created negligent and hazardous work conditions through numerous means including not properly securing bales and “outfitting forklifts with homemade boom extensions that did not have written approval from the manufacturer of the forklift.”
The complaint says that these actions, along with the alleged negligent supervision at Bayou Board and Rigging, led to Ryan’s death and Mary to incur several damages.
“That as a result of the wrongful and negligent acts of the Defendants, and each of them, the Plaintiff was caused to suffer, and will continue to suffer in the future, loss of consortium, loss of society, affection, assistance, and conjugal fellowship, all to the detriment of their marital relationship,” the lawsuit reads.
Mary seeks a jury trial and recompense for all damages and injuries sustained relating to Ryan’s wrongful death.
