Woman shot to death inside southwest Birmingham home
A woman was found slain inside a southwest Birmingham home early Sunday.
West Precinct officers were dispatched at 12:45 a.m. to a report of a person shot at a residence in the 3700 block of Pine Avenue S.W.
Police entered the home and found the woman unresponsive inside. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service pronounced her dead on the scene.
Officer Truman Fitzgerald said investigators believe the victim was shot during a domestic incident. The suspect is not in custody.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
She is the city’s 92nd homicide this year. Of those, one was an officer-involved shooting by an outside law enforcement agency and seven others have been ruled justifiable and therefore aren’t deemed criminal.
In all of Jefferson County, there have been 131 homicides including the 92 in Birmingham.
