Woman shot, seriously injured by juvenile with stolen gun in Tuscaloosa
A woman was seriously injured in Tuscaloosa when she was shot by a juvenile who had a stolen gun, authorities said.
Tuscaloosa police were dispatched at 1:30 a.m. Sunday to a report of a shooting near the intersection of 21st Street and Alston Avenue.
Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit Capt. Jack Kennedy said once on the scene, officers found the wounded woman. She was taken to DCH Regional Medical Center.
The victim was seriously injured, Kennedy said, but is expected to survive.
Investigators determined the shooting took place when a group of people met and continued an ongoing argument they had been involved in for several days.
During the argument, Kennedy said, the juvenile began shooting.
More than 10 people were interviewed, which led investigators to the suspect. He was taken into custody, and police officer carried out a search warrant at his home.
Kennedy said they found a gun, which they learned was stolen.
The juvenile, whose name and age has not been released, is charged with first-degree assault, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and certain person prohibited from possessing a pistol.
He is being held in the Tuscaloosa County Jail awaiting a bond hearing.
Kennedy said the investigation into how the juvenile came to be in possession of a stolen is ongoing and more charges are expected.
