A woman was seriously injured in an afternoon fire in Birmingham.

The fire broke out Monday at a commercial structure in the 100 block of Second Court North, said Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service Battalion Chief Tobias Jones.

Fire crews quickly suppressed the blaze and rescued the woman. She was transported to UAB Hospital in critical condition.

No one else was injured.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
