Woman killed in hit-and-run among 2 dead from weekend Birmingham traffic crashes

Two people were killed in separate Birmingham traffic crashes over the long holiday weekend.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the fatality victims as Willie Rodique Watts, 41, and a 48-year-old woman whose name has not yet been released.

Authorities said Watts, of Birmingham was involved in a single-vehicle crash at 2:19 a.m. Monday in the 400 block of Third Avenue West.

He was taken to UAB Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 2:58 a.m.

Additional details about the wreck have not been released.

The 48-year-old woman was a pedestrian who was killed in a hit-and-run Friday night on Birmingham’s southwest side.

Yates said the woman, whose name is being withheld pending notification of her family, was crossing the road at Princeton Avenue S.W. and Lomb Avenue S.W. when she was struck at 10:30 p.m.

She was pronounced dead on the scene at 10:58 p.m.

Birmingham police are investigating both deadly crashes.
