A woman was killed midday Sunday in a hit-and-run in east Birmingham.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Jennifer Lee Wear. She was 51.

The wreck happened at 12:35 p.m. on 87th Street North at Fifth Avenue North. Wear was pronounced dead on the scene at 12:57 p.m.

Authorities said Wear was a pedestrian when an unknown vehicle struck her and fled the scene.

Birmingham police are investigating.
