Woman killed after falling logs from truck hit her vehicle in Opelika

A woman was killed Monday morning after logs from a logging truck fell and struck her pickup truck in Opelika, police said.

Authorities received a call around 10:03 a.m. about a multi-vehicle crash involving a logging truck on Marvyn Road near the railroad overpass, police said.

Officer found a pickup truck that was struck by falling logs, the department said.

The victim was identified as 44-year-old Miriam Atteberry.

The preliminary investigation revealed Atteberry was going south on Marvyn Parkway and was approaching the railroad overpass.

The log truck driver was traveling northbound on when the logs struck the overpass, causing them to dislodge from the log truck and strike Atteberry’s pickup truck, police said.

The incident remained under investigation Monday by Opelika police’s traffic homicide investigation team, the Lee County coroner, the state Department of Forensic Sciences and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
