A pedestrian was struck and killed while walking near the 3300 block of McFarland Boulevard early Monday morning.

A driver called 911 at 4:05 a.m. to report the accident, said Tuscaloosa police spokeswoman Stephanie Taylor. He told officers he was driving east and unable to avoid striking the woman, who was walking in the middle lane.

The driver had stopped to check on her when a Ford F150 struck the woman and continued driving east.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
