A woman is dead, and a man is in critical condition after a murder- attempted suicide in east Alabama.

Etowah County sheriff’s deputies were dispatched just before noon Monday to North Oak Road in the Tidmore Bend community on a report of an assault involving a knife.

Sheriff Jonathon Horton said deputies arrived to find two people had sustained severe knife wounds.

The female was pronounced dead on the scene. The male was taken to a Gadsden hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Horton said the male suspect is in critical condition.

Their names are being withheld pending notification of their family members.

“All involved parties are located and there is no threat to the community,’’ Horton said.
