A woman has been charged in connection with the shots fired Friday night after a basketball game at Hueytown High School.
Eunethia Arnette Shackleford, 30, is charged with attempted murder and possession of a deadly weapon school grounds.
She was booked into the Jefferson County Jail Saturday and remains held on bonds totaling $67,500.
The warrants were issued by the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office in the Bessemer Cutoff.
The shots were fired after the 7:30 game between Hueytown and Leeds High School had ended.
Jefferson County sheriff’s Lt. Joni Money said a deputy was working at the game at Hueytown High School.
About 9:30 p.m., someone notified the deputy that shots had been fired outside.
According to witnesses, a group of juveniles were involved in an altercation in the parking lot of the school when adult family members arrived on scene and intervened.
One of the family members – now identified as Scheckleford – fired shots in the air and fled the scene with some of the involved juveniles.
No one was injured.
Jefferson County deputies, along with officers with officers from Hueytown Police Department, responded to the scene and dispersed the patrons.
Authorities have not released Shackelford’s relationship to the juveniles involved in the dispute. She lives in Huetyown.
Jefferson County Schools Superintendent Walter B. Gonsoulin Jr. issued a statement Saturday on the incident.
“Our children and fans have the right to go to a sporting event, experience it, and leave without the fear of violence. This type of behavior, especially by an adult who is supposed to set an example, is completely irresponsible,” Gonsoulin said in the statement. “It shows a total lack of respect for human life and will not be tolerated. We are very fortunate no one was injured. I sincerely appreciate the quick actions of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputies and Hueytown Police. While we will likely have more to say in the coming days, for now, we will continue to gather facts and let our law enforcement partners do their jobs. My hope is that the person responsible is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
