Woman arrested for allegedly killing boyfriend in Birmingham domestic violence case

A Birmingham woman has been arrested in connection with an April 2 homicide.

Kayla White, 31, was arrested for murder Thursday during a traffic stop in Helena.

White’s charges came in connection with the April 2 shooting death of Joshua Hayes, 27, during what police at the time called an apparent domestic dispute.

The incident happened at about 10:57 a.m. in the 900 block of Navarro Lane.

Police arrived to find Hayes dead inside a home.

Officer Truman Fitzgerald said investigators learned a domestic disturbance had taken place, and escalated to the point where the victim was shot.

A woman was taken into custody at the scene. They appeared to be in a dating relationship, Fitzgerald said.

White is in the custody of the Jefferson County Jail and is being held without bond.
