Woman and her father arrested in fight with Homewood detective on side of interstate

A father and daughter are behind bars after an altercation with a Homewood police detective during Friday’s morning rush hour.

The incident began shortly before 7:30 a.m. on Interstate 65 southbound near Oxmoor Road.

Sgt. John Carr said the detective was on his way into work when he witnessed a white SUV driving recklessly.

“Before he could take action, the white SUV hit another vehicle,’’ Carr said.

The vehicles all pulled to the side of the road, and the detective requested a patrol officer to come to the scene to work the wreck.

While that was taking place, the detective began to issue a reckless driving ticket to the driver of the SUV.

“At some point her father showed up,” Carr said. “As the detective is issuing the ticket, him and the father get into a verbal altercation which leads to a physical altercation.”

The daughter then also got involved. Both the father, 57, and the daughter, 37, ended up arrested.

Their names have not been released. They live in Birmingham.

The father is charged with resisting arrest. The daughter is charged with assault, because Carr said during the altercation she hit the detective in the face.

The detective was not seriously injured.

Carr said the driver of the vehicle hit by the white SUV also was not injured.
