Witnesses sought in 2020 murder of man found shot to death on I-65 in Birmingham

It’s been more than two years since a 30-year-old man was killed in a drive-by shooting on Interstate 65 in Birmingham, and police are asking for the public’s help to make an arrest in his slaying.

Condorius Sanchez Williams was found dead Aug. 10, 2020.

Birmingham’s 911 Center received a report of a wreck at 12:50 a.m. on Interstate 65 northbound at the 16th Street exit. When officers arrived at the scene that Monday morning, they found a vehicle off the roadway under the bridge.

Williams, who lived in Adamsville, was unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 1:50 a.m.

Police at the time said it appeared Williams may have been specifically targeted but did not elaborate. Williams was shot and killed as he was driving northbound on I-65.

Several weeks later, police announced a capital murder warrant against a Bessemer man.

However, on Oct. 21, 2020, Jefferson County District Judge William Bell dismissed the charge against the suspect. The judge’s ruling was made at the end of a preliminary hearing, and Bell said there was no probable cause to believe the suspect had committed the crime.

Anyone with information is asked to call Birmingham homicide detectives at 205-254-1764 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
