Winter weather advisory issued for southwest Alabama
Freezing rain could cause icy spots on roads and bridges in parts of south Alabama on Monday night and Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service in Mobile has issued a winter weather advisory for several of its counties. It will be in effect from 9 p.m. Monday until 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The south Alabama counties in the advisory, which was issued Sunday afternoon, are Choctaw, Washington, Clarke, Wilcox, Monroe and inland Baldwin and Mobile.
The weather service said a light glaze of freezing rain will be possible, and that could cause slick spots on roads, especially bridges and overpasses. It could especially affect Tuesday morning’s commute.
Snow and winter precipitation were moving into parts of northwest Alabama on Sunday afternoon, and winter storm watches and winter weather advisories covered the northern half of the state.
