Winter weather advisory in effect for north Alabama

North Alabama continued to face the threat for some freezing rain on Thursday as a fast-moving weather system moved through the region.

A winter weather advisory will be in effect until 6 a.m. Friday for Lauderdale, Colbert, Franklin, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, Morgan and Jackson counties.

The National Weather Service in Huntsville was confident that many locations in those counties will make it above freezing this afternoon — but some areas will not. Forecasters said light freezing rain will be an issue for locations along the Tennessee border in Lauderdale, Limestone, Madison and Jackson counties which have more ice or snow on the ground still.

The weather service said additional ice could accumulate a tenth of an inch in the advisory area, which could make already touchy driving conditions even worse.

The weather service has also issued a wind chill advisory for all of north Alabama that will be in effect from 10 p.m. Friday until noon on Saturday.

Another really cold blast of arctic air is on the way to Alabama, and it will send wind chills in north Alabama as low as 4 to 8 below zero on Friday night into Saturday morning, forecasters said.

Forecast lows from Friday night into Saturday morning could again fall into the single digits in north Alabama, forecasters said:
