Will Tuesday be the hottest day of 2024 (so far)?
Tuesday could end up being the hottest day of the year for parts of Alabama, according to forecasters.
The National Weather Service is forecasting high temperatures to reach the 80s across a large part of Alabama today.
It could be warm enough in some spots to put records in jeopardy.
Clouds could increase today along with winds across Alabama. Those winds will bring air out of the south to cover more of the state, helping things warm up.
Winds could also gust up to 40 mph in parts of the state, and wind advisories will be in effect starting this afternoon for central and north Alabama.
Could any records be broken today? Here are the existing high temperature records for a few Alabama cities for Feb. 27:
* Birmingham: 82 degrees in 1962
* Cullman: 75 degrees in 2000
* Dothan: 83 degrees in 2023
* Gadsden: 80 degrees in 1977
* Greenville: 86 degrees in 1962
* Huntsville: 78 degrees in 1962
* Mobile: 82 degrees in 2023
* Montgomery: 84 degrees in 2023

* Selma: 85 degrees in 1962

The warmth will hang around — temporarily — for parts of Alabama into Wednesday, but a cold front expected tomorrow will bring cooler air in behind it. Highs on Thursday are only forecast to reach the 50s and 60s in Alabama.

The cooler temperatures won’t last, however. Highs will climb a few degrees higher on Friday and into the weekend, with most of the state expected to be back in the 70s for highs by Saturday or Sunday.
