Will there be another freeze tonight in Alabama?
A lot of Alabama was freezing cold on Thursday morning.
The National Weather Service was reporting temperatures in the 20s and 30s statewide, and the entire state remains under a freeze warning until later this morning.
Here are some temperatures from around the state as of 6 a.m. Thursday:
* Anniston: 27 degrees
* Auburn: 32 degrees
* Birmingham: 33 degrees
* Demopolis: 26 degrees
* Dothan: 35 degrees
* Evergreen: 28 degrees
* Gadsden: 21 degrees
* Haleyville: 22 degrees
* Huntsville: 27 degrees
* Mobile: 36 degrees
* Montgomery: 29 degrees
* Muscle Shoals: 24 degrees
* Selma: 25 degrees
* Sylacauga: 27 degrees
* Talladega: 25 degrees
* Troy: 32 degrees
* Tuscaloosa: 29 degrees
A warmup is expected to begin today, according to the weather service.
Highs are forecast to reach the 50s and 60s statewide under mostly sunny skies.
Here are today’s forecast highs:
Lows tonight will be chilly but a few degrees warmer, with lows expected to range from the 20s in north Alabama to the 40s in the south.
Don’t expect to see more freeze advisories this year for much of northern Alabama. The weather service typically does not issue freeze warnings after there has been a widespread freeze across a particular area. The reasoning is that the growing season is then officially over until next spring.
Many locations in south and south-central Alabama didn’t hit the freezing point, however, and could see additional freeze watches or warnings tonight or when the next batch of cold air arrives.
The weather service expects a warming trend to begin today and last into next week. Temperatures over the weekend will rise into the 70s and could even reach the 80s by mid-week next week.
Unfortunately it appears that rain chances will still be very low going into next week, with the best chance of any rain possibly holding off until a week from now.
