Will the Mobile City Council fire its police chief on Tuesday?

The Mobile City Council could vote Tuesday to fire its police chief, 21 days after he was placed on administrative leave – an action that kickstarted a firestorm of criticism directed at Mayor Sandy Stimpson’s administration and those atop public safety in the City of Mobile.

Paul Prine, a Prichard native and police chief of Mobile since 2021, was suspended with pay on April 9. Since then, he has raised multiple claims about inappropriate contracting and unethical administering of intelligence-led policing. The Stimpson administration has countered saying that Prine is hurling false accusations of impropriety and conspiracy theories at city officials.
