Here’s three things to know about the freshman phenom:
Where does Alvin Henderson high school stats rank all-time?
Alvin Henderson will go down as one of the greatest running backs in AHSAA history, rushing for a state record 10,930 yards in his career at Elba.
According to Max Preps, Henderson’s high school career rushing yards total ranks No. 5 all-time behind Derrick Henry, Kelvin Taylor, Ken Hall and Michael Hart.
Henderson also finished with 1,224 points and 202 touchdowns, ranking No. 2 all-time behind Johnathan Gray.
Aside from leading the state in rushing, Henderson led the nation in rushing yards and touchdowns in his senior season. He finished with 3,620 yards and 62 touchdowns.
Decommitting from Penn State, Why Auburn?
Henderson held 44 total offers from teams such as Auburn, Penn State, Alabama and Florida.
He initially committed to Penn State last April before flipping his commitment to the Tigers in June.
“I’m coming in ready to work. Being in the locker room with the guys already, everything at Auburn is about to change,” Henderson said back in January.
During his recruitment, Henderson was open about how close he was with Auburn coach Hugh Freeze while committed to the Nittany Lions.
According to 247sports, Freeze texted Henderson everyday leading to his eventual flip.
“When I talked to Coach Freeze every day, he never brought up the fact that you could come here and be great, he kept the main thing the main thing and told me, ‘You’re my guy and I need you. What do I got to do to get you?’ So, his words to me were you could come here and be special,” Henderson said after flipping last June.
Where does Henderson rank in Auburn’s depth chart
Damari Alston and Jerimiah Cobb got majority of the first and second team reps during spring practices. However, Henderson took full advantage of his snaps with the third team.
Henderson rushed for positives yards in most of his attempts during the Tigers A-Day spring practice. Entering fall camp, he will be competing to be the third back behind Alston and Cobb.
Uconn transfer Durell Robinson will also be competing for that third string spot after missing the spring with a foot injury.
