We’re getting ready to ring out the old and welcome the new with the arrival of 2025. But before we get to the New Year, we must finish the old with New Year’s Eve celebrations.

For the most part, however, things continue as normal on Dec. 31, including the work of the post office.

The U.S. Post Office is open New Year’s Eve, though some locations may have shortened hours so it’s best to check ahead. Mail will also be delivered on Dec. 31.

Post offices are closed Jan. 1, 2025 as it’s a federal holiday. No mail will run that day but service will resume on Jan. 2.

New Year’s Day is the first of USPS holidays in 2025. Others are:
