Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday and a time set aside to honor the civil rights leader.

Government offices are closed Monday (Jan. 15, 2024) as is the U.S. Postal Service. Mail will not run Monday and post offices will be closed. Offices will open at regular time on Tuesday and mail delivery will resume.

When the post office opens back up, you may want to stock up on stamps. Starting Jan. 21, the cost of a Forever Stamp – which can be used in perpetuity no matter future price changes – will increase 2 cents from 66 cents to 68 cents. You can see more on other price changes here.

There’s already been one postal holiday this year – New Year’s Day on Jan. 1.
