Will it snow in Alabama next week? Colder weather is on its way
Weather watchers are buzzing about the possibility of more winter precipitation for Alabama next week.
However, the National Weather Service is cautioning that it’s much too early to know “will it or won’t it.”
Here’s what forecasters were thinking as of Friday morning:
- Cold air will move back into Alabama on Sunday following a cold front (which could also bring severe weather to the state on Saturday). Below-average temperatures will be possible through next week.
- A weather system next week will bring precipitation chances back to Alabama starting on Tuesday night. A rain/snow mix could be possible for parts of north Alabama, according to the weather service. Most of south Alabama could just get rain.
- A rain/snow mix could continue into the day on Wednesday for just north Alabama, but high temperatures are expected to rise above freezing, according to the weather service. Just rain is expected for the rest of the state.
- Precipitation in the form of snow could fall on north Alabama on Wednesday night and then taper off into Thursday. There’s also a lower but not zero chance that central and even parts of south Alabama could see some wintry precipitation as well.
- The weather service said some light accumulations will be possible mainly for parts of northwest Alabama, but it’s too soon to know specific amounts.
- Dry conditions are expected to return on Thursday.
- Cold temperatures look to linger through next week. Here is the six- to 10-day temperature outlook, which shows a heightened probability of below-average temperatures for Alabama through the end of next week:
