Will it rain in Alabama on Halloween? Thursday could end dry October in some areas

Rain will be possible in the northern and western parts of Alabama on Thursday and Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

And it could add up to as much as an inch in some lucky spots.

However, the rest of the state may not see a drop and has a good chance to finish October with no measurable rain.

The National Weather Service said a few showers will be possible today in eastern Alabama as a surge of moist air moves into the state from the east. Any spots that get rain may not get more than a few hundredths of an inch.

Then a weak cold front is expected to move into the state from the northwest on Thursday, and it will bring the much-needed showers along with it — but only for western and northern parts of the state.

The good news is that most of the rain is expected to fall after prime trick-or-treating hours on Thursday, according to the weather service.

Rain will be most likely from late on Thursday into Friday, with “fairly widespread coverage” of showers and a few storms for most of northern Alabama and the northern part of central Alabama, according to the weather service.

The rain is expected to come to an end by Friday afternoon.

Rain chances will fade after Friday, according to the weather service, and the next week looks to be drier.

However, longer-range precipitation outlooks from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center also point to a slightly elevated chance of above-average rainfall into November.

Below is the outlook from Nov. 4-8. It shows a 40 to 50 percent probability of above-average rain for the areas in darker green in Alabama, and a 33-40 percent probability in the areas in lighter green.
