Will Cedric the Entertainer & Anthony Anderson come to Alabama for new barbecue series?

Alabama knows barbecue. That’s why we’re betting Cedric the Entertainer and Anthony Anderson will pay a visit to the state, filming their “Kings of BBQ” series.

The two comedians are teaming up for a new barbecue brand, AC Barbeque, according to information released Wednesday by A&E Network. They’re also working on 10-episode reality series that will take them across the country, looking for advice and tips from barbecue experts.

“To perfect the products and learn all they can about the art form, the two friends head out on a culinary adventure to discover the best techniques, flavors, and traditions for mouthwatering barbecue across America,” an A&E press release says.

“In each one-hour episode, ‘Kings of BBQ’ will follow Cedric and Anthony as they meet with barbecue chefs, pitmasters and everyday experts who share their knowledge and secrets of the trade, highlighting Black Excellence in the industry along the way,” the release says. “From backyards to BBQ pits, the duo will go behind the scenes to master barbecue in all its glory and create a business of their own that honors its legacy and flavors. Along the way, celebrity friends and family will join in on the fun and help share how different cultures and experiences have influenced the delicious cooking technique.”

There’s no word yet on the cities they’ll visit or the barbecue experts they’ll consult, but Alabama is celebrated for its barbecue — via Miss Myra’s Pit Bar-B-Q, Dreamland Bar-B-Que, Saw’s BBQ, Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q, Archibald’s Bar-B-Q and many more — and filming here would be a natural for the series.

Also, Cedric the Entertainer is no stranger to Alabama, performing several times over the years in Birmingham and other cities. (He’ll appear at the Legacy Arena at the BJCC on May 13, for example, as part of the “Straight Jokes! No Chaser Tour.”) Anderson, of “black-ish” fame, was the celebrity ambassador for the 2015 Magic City Classic in Birmingham, to boot.

“Anthony and I are very excited to take our audience into the savory, smokehouse-filled, finger licking world of barbecue all across the United States,” Cedric The Entertainer said via the press release “The launch of AC Barbeque has been a lifelong dream for Cedric and I and we cannot wait to learn more about the craft and share our journey,” Anderson said.

Let’s not jinx anything for Alabama’s prospects as a featured destination on the series, but we’re keeping our eyes on “Kings of BBQ.” Stay tuned!
