Will Bessemer Amazon workers have a third union election? January hearing date set
A judge with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) will hear arguments next January to determine if there will be a third election at Amazon’s Bessemer fulfillment center for union representation.
A hearing is set for Jan. 29, 2024 regarding the results of a 2022 union election at Bessemer on whether workers will be represented by the Retail, Wholesale & Department Store Union (RWDSU).
The hearing originally had been set for September of this year.
According to the NLRB, the hearing will deal with several issues between the online retailer and the union in the latest chapter of the three-year fight over unionization at the warehouse.

Workers voted down the union in 2021 in a mail-in election over several weeks, but the result was set aside by the NLRB after it found Amazon interfered in the election process.
A second election on March 31, 2022 showed 875 votes for representation, 993 votes against, and 416 challenged ballots. After challenges from both Amazon and the RWDSU, there are now 311 ballots left to rule on, which could determine the outcome of the election.
Both Amazon and the union also filed objections to the election, as well as the union filing unfair labor practice charges against Amazon.
In all, 14 of the union’s objections, and seven of Amazon’s, still need a decision.
If the judge upholds an objection or finds that a unfair labor practice tainted the election, the results of the second election could be set aside.
