Will Bessemer Amazon workers have a third union election? Decision could come soon
A hearing is set for April 22 which could determine whether employees at Amazon’s Bessemer fulfillment center have a third election on union representation.
The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) said an administrative law judge will determine whether objections by Amazon or the Retail, Wholesale & Department Store Union (RWDSU) to the 2022 union election in Amazon constituted an unfair labor practice, nullifying the latest election results.
If so, it would trigger a third election in the labor union fight, now in its third year.

Workers voted down the union in 2021 in a mail-in election over several weeks, but the result was set aside by the NLRB after it found Amazon interfered in the election process. That came after a contentious campaign during COVID restrictions, which drew celebrities, politicians and even the attention of the Biden Administration.
Ballots in the second election were tallied on March 31, 2022.
The initial results showed 875 votes for RWDSU representation, 993 votes against, and 416 challenged ballots.
Of those, 311 challenged ballots remain outstanding, and both the union and Amazon filed objections to the vote.
At the April hearing, an administrative law judge could rule on 14 objections by the union and seven by Amazon.
