Will Anderson Jr. wins another NFL rookie award
Houston Texans defensive end Will Anderson Jr. won The AP NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award for the 2023 season.
The former Alabama All-American was presented with the award on Thursday night during the NFL Honors program in Las Vegas.
Anderson won a competitive vote of 50 media members.
Anderson collected 16 first-place votes, 21 second-place votes and eight third-place votes for 151 points (with first-place votes worth five points, second-place three points and third-place one point).
Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter finished second with 122 points – 14 first-place, 14 second-place and 10 third-place votes.
Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Kobie Turner finished third with 95 points – 14 first-place, six second-place and seven third-place votes.
Anderson was named the winner of the Pro Football Writers of America’s NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award last week.
After joining Houston as the third pick in the NFL Draft on April 27, Anderson had 45 tackles, seven sacks, 10 tackles for loss and 22 quarterback hits in 15 regular-season games.
Anderson helped the Texans win the AFC South with seven more victories in 2023 than they had in 2022. Houston defeated the Cleveland Browns 45-14 in the first round of the AFC playoffs before a 34-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens ended the Texans’ season.
