Will Alabama football release a depth chart? What Kalen DeBoer said
Depth chart Monday is right around the corner for Alabama football.
At least, what used to be depth chart Monday, also known as the Monday of the first game week for much of Nick Saban’s tenure at Alabama.
The former Crimson Tide coach put a stop to that in 2023 and didn’t release one until the day of the first game, and now, a new man is running the program: Kalen DeBoer.
What’s DeBoer’s approach to depth charts and releasing them? He was asked the question Thursday in his final time speaking with reporters before the first game week.
“We’ll probably do something that’s public at some point throughout the week,” DeBoer said. “A lot of it is also just where it’s at with our opponent too. You kind of know, especially after Week 1. The Week 1 game is probably the trickiest but there’s so much information on us that’s out there already. I always kind of assume that is known by our opponent.
DeBoer thinks 90% of what the depth chart looks like is already known. As for the other 10% …
“I would say some of those things are kind of up in the air and are going to be a work in progress,” DeBoer said. “Not solidified. If you’ve got a depth chart, there might be some “ors” in different spots. That’s hopefully understandable.”
Alabama is set to face Western Kentucky on Saturday, Aug. 31 at Bryant-Denny Stadium to open the 2024 season.
