Wilco concert with Waxahatchee changes venue after weekend thunderstorms in Alabama

Wilco’s Monday concert in Birmingham has been moved from an outdoor venue to an indoor one, as organizers point to concerns about the weather.

Alabama was hit by thunderstorms over the weekend, including severe weather in Birmingham. More rain was predicted for Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

Wilco’s 7 p.m. show, with opener Waxahatchee, originally was scheduled for Avondale Brewing Co., but now will be held at the BJCC Concert Hall.

It’s the latest change announced for the concert, which had moved its date from May 2 to May 12 at Avondale Brewing.

Tickets purchased for the general-admission, standing-room event at Avondale Brewing will be honored at the BJCC, the Ticketmaster listing says.

An area closest to the stage at the concert hall will be reserved for folks who bought “Premium Pit” tickets for the show at Avondale. All other areas of the venue will be general admission, with seats available on a first-come, first-served basis, the ticket listing says.

GA tickets for the show remain on sale via Ticketmaster, priced at $76, according to the ticket listing. The concert hall, part of the BJCC complex at 2100 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. North, seats about 2,800 people.

“If you purchased A-LIST or ELEVATE, you will be receiving a refund via Ticketmaster as these are not available at the BJCC,” the Avondale Brewing website says. These are upgrade passes that offer access to the brewery’s taproom, an elevated viewing platform and other perks. They were purchased in addition to GA or Premium Pit tickets for the show.

Wilco, a rock band led by singer-songwriter Jeff Tweedy, is a favorite in Birmingham, traveling on a “Sweet and Sour Spring 2025 Tour.” The band is set to perform songs from expanded versions of two classic albums in its archive, 2004’s “A Ghost Is Born” and 2011’s “The Whole Love.” The setlist also will include tunes from 2023’s “Cousin” and 2024 EP “Hot Sun Cool Shroud,” a publicist said.

Waxahatchee, also known as Birmingham’s Katie Crutchfield, is touring on a 2024 album, “Tigers Blood.” The record earned Crutchfield her first Grammy nomination, in the category of Best Americana Album. (Sierra Ferrell took the trophy for “Trail of Flowers” at the 2025 awards ceremony.) Crutchfield, an indie singer-songwriter, is a rising star on the music scene, with six studio albums to her credit.
