Why Alabamaâs Malachi Moore broke Nick Sabanâs 24-hour rule for Auburn
Nick Saban’s 24-hour rule for Alabama has become somewhat standard across college football. The Crimson Tide takes the time following a game to either celebrate the win or lick its wounds after a defeat.
After UA’s victory against Chattanooga Saturday, players were asked about the upcoming Iron Bowl against Auburn in the postgame media session. They downplayed the preparation, citing the rule.
On Monday, Alabama safety Malachi Moore admitted he didn’t wait the entire time to start thinking about Auburn. In fact, he barely waited at all.
“I’m not gonna lie, I watched their game this past Saturday as soon as I got home,” Moore said. “And then after that, later that night, I had started watching their offense, Saturday night. So nah, I ain’t listen to the 24-hour rule.”
Moore is an Alabama native. He’s well-versed in how important the Iron Bowl is across the state.
It’s also a must-win for the Crimson Tide. A victory keeps its College Football Playoff hopes alive entering the SEC championship game against No. 1 Georgia next week.
Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe said his main goal immediately after the Chattanooga game was recovery.
“But yeah, I watched some of the tape on Auburn,” Milroe said. “I watched a lot of tape on Auburn. Just trying to prepare for the complexity of their defense, just trying to be as much prepared as possible so I can go into the game, feeling free, and playing my game. I have been prepared for Auburn. I do see a gritty team and a team that’s going to give us their all.”
Alabama and Auburn are scheduled to kick off at 2:30 p.m. CT on Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The game will be aired on CBS.
