Why Aden Holloway, Denver Jones didn’t start for No. 8 Auburn against Mississippi State

Auburn guards Aden Holloway and Denver Jones did not start for the No. 8 ranked Tigers on Saturday afternoon against Mississippi State because of a “violation of team rules,” according to the SEC Network broadcast of the game.

It was not stated what actions may have led to the violation. Head coach Bruce Pearl will likely address the issue in his post-game media availability.

Both players checked into the game for Auburn after the under-16 media timeout in the first half.

Auburn hasn’t changed its starting lineup since its Nov. 21 game against Alabama A&M. In that game, both Jones and center Johni Broome did not start due to an “in-house” issue, according to head coach Bruce Pearl.

Jones has now been involved in both of Auburn’s two discipline-related starting lineup changes this season.

Holloway had started every game for Auburn since he was inserted into the lineup against Notre Dame on Nov. 16.

Jones has started every game for Auburn except the two where he has faced team discipline.
