Who will No. 1 seed Auburn basketball play in first round of the NCAA tournament?

March Madness is here for Auburn basketball.

After falling in the semifinals of the Southeastern Conference tournament, the Tigers received good news on Selection Sunday, earning the No. 1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament. It’s the first time in school history Auburn has been the No. 1 overall seed.

That puts Auburn in the south region, facing either Alabama State or St. Francis (PA) in the first round. That game will be on Thursday.

With a win in the first round, Auburn will face the winner of Louisville and Creighton in the second round. Auburn’s first and second round games will both take place in at Rupp Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.

If Auburn makes it past the first weekend, it will play its potential Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight games at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. Possible Sweet Sixteen opponents include four-seed Texas A&M, five-seed Michigan, 12-seed UC San Diego and 13-seed Yale.

Yale beat Auburn in the first round of last year’s NCAA tournament as a 13-seed. A matchup with Texas A&M would be a rematch of the Aggies’ win over the Tigers on March 4.
