The upcoming municipal election, happening on Aug. 26, will mark a huge change in Homewood’s government structure and a historic mayoral race.

Come November, the city council will be reduced from 11 members to four, each designated to represent one of four wards, instead of five. The mayor will serve as council president and work alongside the city manager. Officials say the change will increase government efficiency.

Two candidates are racing to make history. Jennifer Andress, a two-term council member representing Ward 5, and Robin Litaker, a Teacher of the Year winner who ran for U.S. Congress, are both competing to be Homewood’s first ever female mayor.

With the reduction in council members, the race for who will represent Homewood is tight.
