Overall Bryant-Jordan Scholarship winner Aiden Poe and three standouts committed to SEC schools were among the high school baseball players of the year as named by the Alabama Sports Writers Association.

The ASWA released its annual All-State baseball team today. The All-State softball team will be announced June 7.

The team is selected by the ASWA’s prep committee after nominations from statewide high school coaches. Players must have been nominated by their coaches in order to be considered. One hundred sixty seven schools had at least one All-State player or honorable mention selection.

The organization honors a player, pitcher, hitter and coach of the year in each of the seven AHSAA classifications and the AISA along with a first and second all-state team and honorable mention selections.

The Mr. Baseball winner will be announced at the annual ASWA summer convention June 8 at Jacksonville State University.

Poe, who led Vincent to the Class 2A state title, was named Player of the Year in that classification. Hewitt-Trussville star and Tennessee commit Steele Hall was named the top player in 7A, American Christian slugger and Alabama commit Eric Hines was tops in 5A and Glenwood hitter and pitcher and Auburn commit Mason McCraine was player of the Year in 3A.

Hines and McCraine also were named hitters of the year in their respective classifications. The other player of the year winners were Chelsea’s Aiden Hughes (6A), Deshler’s Garrett Reid (4A), Hackleburg’s Blaise Vickery (1A) and Lakeside’s Demetrius Hardnett (AISA).
