Who is the Week 8 Hollis Wright Birmingham Player of the Week?

Corner quarterback Brendan Conner helped lead the Yellow Jackets to their seventh straight win last week and earned the Hollis Wright Birmingham Player of the Week honors in the Week 8 poll.

Conner is the third player from Corner, ranked No. 8 in Class 4A this week, to earn the top spot in the weekly balloting. In Week 5 and 6, defensive lineman Austin Reid and defensive back Jace Boyd were voted Player of the Week.

The senior received 74 percent of the 23,759 votes cast after completing 9-of-11 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown and running for 108 yards and three scores on nine carries in a 42-13 win over Oak Grove.

Homewood junior quarterback Will Myers finished second in the balloting after running for 102 yards on 15 carries and completing 24-of-30 passes for 223 yards in a 34-13 win over Chilton County.

Parker senior linebacker Carlton Duncan finished third in the poll after contributing 8 tackles and 2 interceptions in a last-minute 13-10 win at Mountain Brook.

Voting for Hollis Wright Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday. Nominees are determined from statistics submitted by coaches or official team statisticians before noon each Saturday.

In Week 8, more than 31,000 votes were cast across the three AL.com player of the week polls.
