Elkmont quarterback John Adam Doner Jr. picked up the Week 3 Huntsville Player of the Week honors much in the same fashion his Red Devils earned their victory against Phil Campbell – in a rout.

Doner got 57 percent of the 8,242 votes cast in the poll.

The senior threw four touchdown passes in the 44-22 win at home to open Class 3A, Region 8 play. Sam Peek of Woodville was second in the fan poll after running for 174 yards and three TDs and passing for 127 yards and a score in a 38-27 win over Cedar Bluff.

Scottsboro’s Jacobi Edmondson was third in the balloting after running for 242 yards and three touchdowns on 14 carries in the Wildcats 63-38 win over Boaz.

Voting for Huntsville Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday. Nominees are determined from statistics submitted by coaches or official team statisticians before noon each Saturday.

In Week 3, more than 34,000 votes were cast across the three AL.com player of the week polls.
