The average worker in Jefferson County makes around $60,000 a year according to the most recent data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor statistics.

Those employed by the county have the potential to make two to five times that salary depending on their position according to Jefferson County salary schedules.

County attorneys and department directors make up over half of the list of the top ten highest paid Jefferson County employees in 2023. When combined, these ten individual salaries total out to just under $2.5 million.

Over the last year there have been some shifts in the top ten list which Jefferson County Public Information Officer Helen Hays said were largely due to personnel shifts like retirements and promotions.

The longer someone works in a position with the county, the higher their salary, Hays said.
