Who are the freshman to keep an eye on when Auburn begins spring football
Spring football is on the horizon for Auburn football.
Auburn coach Hugh Freeze and the staff get thsir first look at the 2025 version of the Tigers as Auburn’s spring practice begins March 25, and the A-Day spring game is scheduled for April 12.
Here’s a list of freshmen for Tiger fans to keep an eye out for a breakout A-Day performance.
Deuce Knight, QB
Knight was one of three 5-star prospects in Auburn’s 2025 signing class, along with Malik Autry and Jared Smith.
The Tigers signed Knight adding on to transfer additions Jackson Arnold and Ashton Daniels. With Arnold expected to be the day one starter, Knight’s early arrival makes for a position battle leading up to the fall season.
In nine games at George County high last year, Knight passed for 2,082 yards and 24 touchdowns with five interceptions while also rushing for 450 yards and nine scores.
Fans should expect several snaps from Knight during April’s spring game.

Alvin Henderson, RB
The Tigers running back room will be one of the most competitive groups all season with four guys aiming to be the starter.
Damari Alston and Jerimiah Cobb are the favorites entering the spring. Former UConn running back Durell Robinson transferred in during the offseason.
Four-star running back Alvin Henderson is coming into his freshman year off one of the greatest Alabama high school football seasons in recent memory.
Henderson rushed for 10,766 yards, according to MaxPreps, becoming the AHSAA’s all-time leading rusher. He totaled 3,456 yards and 61 touchdowns during his senior season.

Jared Smith, Edge
Jared Smith ranked as the No. 25 overall player and the second-best edge rusher in the 2025 class, according to 247Sports.
During his senior season at Thompson, Smith tallied 83 tackles, 23 hurries, 21 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and one interception, helping lead the Warriors to the 7A state championship game.
Joining a defense with returners like Keldric Faulk, Malik Blocton and fellow freshman 5-star Malik Autry, Smith’s addition can send the Tigers defensive unit to new heights in 2025.
Elijah Melendez, LB
The Tigers linebackers’ room will be the youngest position group on the roster. Sophomore Demarcus Riddick is the only returner who saw playing time last season.
Freeze mentioned on signing day that the freshmen linebackers will likely have to play early due to the lack of depth at the position. Elijah Melendez will be a guy coaches depend on in moments like that.
“I love them all. Man, I think Elijah just looks like a senior right now,” Freeze said on signing day. “He’s the most rocked up high school linebacker I’ve ever signed.”
Melendez measures 6-foot-2, 225 pounds and was ranked as the No. 39 linebacker in the country. Redshirt freshman DJ Barber, Jakaleb Faulk and Bryce Deas will also be competing at the position.

Anquon Fegans, S
Auburn’s secondary is already pretty loaded with young talent making it hard for freshman Anquon Fegans to see the field early.
However, he’s already shared the field with Tigers starter Kaleb Harris while the two played at Thompson high school in 2023.
In his final year at Thompson, Fegans tallied 72 tackles, nine tackles for loss, seven pass deflections, five interceptions, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries, helping lead the Warriors to the 7A state championship game.
Matching up against a talented Auburn offense, the spring game setting will be a perfect place for Fegans to prove to coaches his college readiness.
