Who are the coaches for the North-South All-Star football game?
Daphne head coach Kenny King and Oxford head coach Sam Adams have been named the head coaches for December’s North-South All-Star Football Game at Hancock-Whitney Stadium in Mobile.
King will coach the South, while Adams will handle the North.
The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13.
King and Adams were chosen as head coaches last spring by former Alabama High School Athletic Director and Coaches Association director Brandon Dean.
The two head coaches each announced their staffs Friday.
King will be joined on the South squad by Dothan head coach Jed Kennedy (linebackers), G.W. Long’s David Watts (running backs), Carver-Montgomery’s Bobby Carr (quarterbacks and offensive coordinator), Trinity’s Brian Seymore (offensive line), Tallassee’s Lawrence O’Neal (defensive backs) and Beauregard’s Justin Jones (wide receivers).
Adams’ North staff includes Minor’s Adrian Abrams (defensive coordinator, defensive line), McAdory’s Aryvia Holmes (offensive coordinator, wide receivers), Winfield’s David McKinney (offensive line), Mars Hill’s Darrell Higgins (linebackers), Fort Payne’s Chris Elmore (quarterbacks) and James Clemens’ Chad McGehee (defensive backs).
“The two staffs are loaded with outstanding coaches,” said current AHSADCA director J.T. Lawrence. “This game means a lot to each of them. It is the oldest all-star game in the AHSAA dating back to 1948 and has provided opportunities for our players and coaches over the last 77 years to share memories and form lasting friendships through their participation in the annual game.”
Saraland’s Jeff Kelly will be Alabama’s head coach for the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game, which will be held Dec. 14 at Hancock-Whitney Stadium.
King, a former star at Daphne High and Alabama, is in his ninth year as head coach of his Alma Mater. He is 56-38 overall. This year’s team is 4-3 entering tonight’s game at Alma Bryant.
Adams’ Oxford team is 7-0 and is idle this week. The Yellow Jackets host reigning 6A champ Clay-Chalkville on Oct. 18. Adam is 28-14 in his fourth season at Oxford. He spent seven years at Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa and went 56-29.
The North-South All-Star Game, which was first played in 1948, moved to Mobile in 2020 and since then, the South has won three of four games and now holds a 35-28-2 edge in the series. The South won 31-28 on a late field goal last year and 42-7 in the most lopsided victory of the series in 2022.
