Who are Alabama football’s emergency left tackles for USF game?

Alabama football is in an unsure state at left tackle. With Kadyn Proctor injured during pregame warmups, Elijah Pritchett stepped up to play against Western Kentucky.

With South Florida coming up on Saturday, Proctor’s shoulder injury is still being evaluated, with Pritchett the likely starter if he can’t go. But what happens after that?

On Wednesday, offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic described the options should Pritchett go down.

“Miles (McVay) has been getting reps there,” Kapilovic said. “Wilkin (Formby) can go back and forth. So we’ve got a combination of guys we’re working there, to be ready to go for that.”

There’s also options elsewhere on the offensive line. Tyler Booker has played tackle in the past, and the leader of the Crimson Tide’s line practiced at the spot during spring football, with Proctor absent due to his brief transfer to Iowa.

Kapilovic didn’t shut down the possibility when asked whether Booker could move over in an emergency.

“We have all kinds of thoughts,” Kapilovic said. “And Booker’s played every position since I’ve been here. He’s had center reps in the summer, he had tackle reps in the spring. Anything is possible, right? You just look and evaluate, who are your best guys? Who are the guys that can do it? And then you have them ready to go.”

Pritchett battled for the starting job at right tackle throughout camp, before Formby earned the first-team role. He had been on the left side in the past, competing with Proctor to start there before the 2023 season.

Coaches praised his play in Saturday’s 63-0 win over WKU, especially given the emergency circumstances. According to Pro Football Focus data, Pritchett gave up a sack and three pressures.

Alabama faces USF Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game is scheduled to kick off at 6 p.m. CT and will be aired on ESPN.
