The GroupMe chat where more than 250 racial slurs for white people was shared and then leaked earlier this month was not the Auburn University Black Student Union channel or from any other “recognized Auburn University organization,” the university said Monday.

The chat, which contained a Google document titled “Creaker Names” (creaker is slang for an old white person), was given by Auburn student Jaden Heard to 1819 News. Heard claimed a whistleblower provided the list to him.

“My favorite is the vanilla villager,” one person wrote in the GroupMe chat, according to screenshots posted on 1819 News.

“Milk Monkies gone always make me laugh,” wrote another, who punctuated the remark with a crying laughing emoji.

Other terms on the list include “unedited Google document,” “Ku Klux Karen,” and “mayosapiens.”

Turning Point USA, a conservative organization on college campuses that first reported the story on Feb. 3, claimed the whistleblower was “tired of the blatant anti-white racism shown in the left and decided to take a stand.”

In a statement to Turning Point USA, Auburn said it became aware of the GroupMe chat on Jan. 17.

But in a statement the university provided Feb. 8 that was not included in neither Turning Point USA’s nor 1819 News’ coverage of the story, Auburn said it learned the chat, which was titled “AU Connect: Brought to you by The Throwdown,” included “hundreds of people from multiple universities.”

“These comments did not occur on the Black Student Union GroupMe nor as part of any recognized Auburn University organization channel,” said the university statement, which was sent to AL.com on Monday.

“An investigation is underway in the university’s Office of Affirmative Action and Equal Employment, which adjudicates reports of harassment and discrimination,” the statement continued.

”The university takes these matters very seriously and the alleged behavior does not represent the values of Auburn University. The university prohibits harassment of its students and employees as outlined in our Policy Against Discrimination and Harassment.”
